Choosing An Antenna

HD Stacker Antenna In general, any installation with a height 12 feet or less above the roof probably will not violate local government, community association, or landlord restrictions.   PA Berks: The highest point of an antenna attached to a building shall not exceed the peak of the roof by more than fifteen (15) feet.   No more than two (2) antennae shall be permitted per lot, nor shall more than one (1) freestanding antenna be permitted per lot.   Jefferson Township PA: The typical TV antenna mast diameter is 1.25 inches and 18 gauge thickness. Antenna's accept a mast size up to 1-7/8" diameter.   Ideally, an antenna should be about one wavelength (~12 feet) from any other object (except for the pole it is mounted to).   IMPORTANT: Make sure you install a proper ground and lightning surge protector, and stay at least 20 feet from all power lines.

Multiple Antennas

If you have signals from multiple directions that you want to receive, then the best solution is to stack multiple antennas on the same pole.   But first, determine how many directions you wish to receive DTV signals from by using this transmitter locator.   In my case, I wanted to capture signals at 122 ° 54 miles away, and at 223 ° at 36 miles away.   You then feed equal length coax cables from each antenna to a signal combiner/coupler or a diplexer.   After the combiner, you will probably want to feed them into a distribution amplifier with sufficient outputs for each TV in your home.   The Winegard CC-7870 Antenna Coupler combines any 75 ohm HDTV antenna signals into one.
